Nursery Facilities

Introduction

Children attending Safe ‘n’ Sound Day Nurseries will fit into one of four age groups incorporating birth to three months and the Foundation Stages. A development file is kept for each child along with a diary sheet to provide you with a record of your child’s day.

Babies 0-1 years

The aim of this group is to provide a relaxed caring atmosphere in which babies can explore and find out about themselves and the world around them. Sensory equipment helps to stimulate and encourage development. There are designated nappy changing, milk kitchen and sleeping areas with full-sized cots where babies can have their daily sleep on their own bedding. We aim to follow the daily routine of each baby and parents are encouraged to visit at any time.

Baby Toddlers 1-2 years

This group is for babies who can walk, which is usually at around 12 months. They will be introduced to singing and music time, as well as messy play activities, which may be the first time they experience some of these activities, which we hope will become enjoyable experiences. Painting, sticking and gluing are also encouraged along with free play including jigsaws, play dough and Duplo.

Toddlers 2-3 years

The main aim of this group is to gradually encourage your child to become an independent individual. A daily routine is followed, which includes story and singing time, drinks time and a morning and afternoon activity such as baking, painting, sand and water, sticking and gluing, etc. Children play outside each day, weather permitting, and many activities are structured to help build your child’s confidence with colour, shapes and number recognition.

Pre-school 3-5 years

Children in this group will follow the Foundation Stage curriculum, which starts from the age of 3. This curriculum is produced by the Government and designed to provide the basis for a smooth transition from nursery into primary school.

Children will be involved in many activities throughout the day including:

  • Play
  • Adult directed activities
  • Independent activities

The combination of these activities will cover the following six main areas of learning:

  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development
